Commission urges FOIA training and shares advisory resources

Chairperson Greer presented compiled resources on open-meetings requirements from the Freedom of Information Advisory Council and the Virginia chapter of the American Planning Association and urged commissioners to complete FOIA training ahead of the commission's next meeting. Members discussed scheduling options and agreed that those who could attend live training should do so; others will complete an online webinar and submit certificates.
"I found a access to public meetings under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act," the chair said, noting the materials are a starter resource rather than a substitute for formal training. Staff agreed to circulate PDFs and invitations so commissioners can complete training in the coming weeks and file certificates with the commission.
