Council hears parks maintenance plan; large playground replacements not planned this year

Public works director Eric told council that over the last 10 years the city has replaced nearly all playground equipment and that the proposed budget emphasizes maintenance rather than major capital replacements. "Over the last 10 years, we've replaced about every piece of playground equipment in the city," he said, noting that routine resealing, fall-protection maintenance and repairs will be covered but that catastrophic structural replacements (slides, large components) would require additional funding.
On trails, staff said the budget supports small repairs and resurfacing of short sections but cannot fund large paved-trail replacements. For Clear Creek Crossing staff and the homeowners association agreed to remove an asphalt trail segment and replace it with a natural-surface trail to mitigate root intrusion. Council members asked about specific parks (Pamela Baker Park) and whether any expansions or capital work were included; staff said only utilities and minor repairs are budgeted this year and that expansions would be part of a separate capital-improvement plan.
