Local residents urge Eagle City to review Class A recycled water outreach and PFAS risks

Sophia Fleming told the council she submitted materials and asked the city to hold a dedicated session to review the Class A recycled water agreement in which the City of Eagle is a shareholder. Fleming said ESD has already purchased filtration equipment and begun pipeline planning but that the district’s reuse permit remains under review by the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality. "EASD has been using outdated outreach like this Child at Play flyer to claim PFAS is a safe is safe at 650 UGL, which equates to 630,000 parts per trillion," Fleming said, noting that EPA’s current approach to PFAS in drinking water is far lower.
Fleming said local irrigation practices (flood irrigation and high water tables) and seasonal exposure to canals and ponds warrant a local review of emerging contaminant data. She asked the council to (1) schedule a special session to review the latest science on CECs and PFAS and the DEQ permit requirements and (2) examine ESD public outreach to confirm proper notification for downstream ditch shareholders and property owners.
Mayor Pike thanked Fleming and said staff would continue to look into the concerns. Council members did not act on Fleming’s requests at the meeting but agreed to follow up — Fleming asked staff to accept a packet of supporting materials for the record.
