Residents urge speed-limit changes and new signage on Texas Hill Road after crashes

A group of residents told the Hillsdale Town Board during public comment that aggressive driving, tailgating and a lack of clear speed signage on Texas Hill Road are creating hazardous conditions.
"The speed sign that said 35 is really not good because the one before it is 45 as you're coming down the hill gaining momentum," one resident said, describing a downhill approach that accelerates vehicles toward a tight intersection. Petitioners said that several collisions and a rollover on a nearby field illustrate the ongoing danger and urged the board to act.
A petitioner who reviewed the draft town resolution on speed limits said the town’s draft sets limits at 35 mph while the petition asks for 25 mph, and warned that informal changes in driver behavior often push posted limits higher in practice: "So 35 becomes 40 or 45. 25 becomes more like 30," the petitioner said. Petitioners asked the board to identify which signs the town can place without state approval and to share designs before any installation.
Supervisor responded that the town will coordinate with the county/state to determine the legally required speed determination and that the board will postpone heavier sign deployment until the official speed is set. The board agreed to collect petitions and prepare a formal resolution and to include the topic on an upcoming agenda for a more formal vote.
