Residents urge pause on Texas Hill Road work, cite safety and transparency concerns

Several residents told the Hillsdale Town Board they oppose substantive road work that they see as paving or widening Texas Hill Road and asked the board to halt further work until the gift committee and the board complete public review. Michael, who identified himself during public comment, presented a cost comparison based on town February budget figures and said the numbers provided by the town suggesting a $145,000 annual maintenance cost for 2.1 miles were not substantiated by historical budgets.

Susan Soloway, who said she has lived on Texas Hill Road for about 30 years, cited repeated crashes at two hairpin turns and said, "If it's paved, I don't wanna see what's gonna happen, and it's gonna be on all of our consciences." Speakers also raised procedural concerns, saying maintenance or preparatory work began before board members and residents had an opportunity to review the gift-committee timeline or the amended February agreement. Board members and town staff replied that some work was included in earlier filings and that fabric and aggregate work is standard prep for chip sealing.
