Chair Phil Mendelson introduced Bill 20-66659, the fiscal year 2027 Local Budget Act of 2026, for first reading. Councilmembers discussed an added delivery fee for grocery and food orders as the bill moved forward.
Councilmember Pinto said she was uneasy about adding a delivery fee "on people ordering groceries and food, at a time when costs are skyrocketing across the district," but she did not remove the bill from the agenda. Councilmember Felder echoed concerns about the fee’s effect on drivers and the restaurant industry. After brief discussion the council approved the bill on first reading unanimously.
The vote clears the Local Budget Act for the council’s next procedural step; members said they would continue monitoring fee impacts as budget implementation proceeds.
