City Engineer Ryan Cummins presented Resolution No. R-12-26 to advertise bids for a design-build pedestrian bridge at the Traxler Family Arboretum. Cummins said the City secured approximately $500,000 in grant funding through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and that the award of any contract cannot proceed until those grant agreement documents are finalized. He described an example bridge image from another Ohio location and noted the planned span of roughly 70 feet with an 8-foot width, sufficient for pedestrian use and for a Kubota utility vehicle if needed.
Mayor Jensen confirmed the bridge will replace the prior connection on the Stoney Ridge Road side of the property and said the design firm recently coordinated with the Tree Commission; full designs are expected to be available to Council the following week. Cummins noted construction lead times could be affected by the design-build delivery approach. Council asked about materials and Cummins described Corten steel with wood railings as the example aesthetic; Jensen said the appearance would be consistent with other park bridges in the City.
No contract award was made at the work session; the Administration authorized advertising for bids so the City can move quickly once ODNR paperwork is complete.
