E-bike safety and enforcement emerge as central public concern in Avon council meeting

E-bike safety dominated public and council conversation on June 22 as Council members, the Safety Director and a resident public commenter described recurring safety problems and uneven enforcement. Safety Director Duane Streator said police outreach and school resource officer-led sessions have improved helmet usage, noting helmet use is "definitely" improving. Council members said education efforts have occurred in schools and at safety camp, and the Mayor indicated a desire to consider additional regulations at the July Work Session.
Resident Pat Jankowski, speaking during public comment, urged immediate action and said she has been hearing concerns for three-and-a-half years. According to the minutes, she "fears a child will be killed before the City acts" and described a recent near-miss. Mayor Bryan Jensen acknowledged enforcement challenges but said the Administration intends to bring proposals to Council at the July Work Session.
