Councilmember Allen explained that two PSC commissioners’ terms were set to expire on June 30 and that extending the holdover period would allow the current commissioners to continue serving through March 27, 2027, giving the incoming mayor time to nominate replacements and the Council time to consider appointments. He cited recent energy affordability concerns and the need for stable utility oversight during the transition.
The emergency declaration and the underlying bill passed unanimously. Sponsors said the extension is a temporary calendar fix to ensure the PSC can operate while nominations and confirmations proceed.
