Council adopts emergency FY2026 revised budget and related declarations

The Council approved emergency legislation to revise the FY2026 Local Budget Act and related declarations. The Chair described the amendment in the nature of a substitute to the declaration and highlighted reductions for overspending and vacancy savings used to balance the fiscal year 2026 revisions.
The panel accepted the ANS by unanimous voice and then approved the underlying emergency Bill 20‑66‑62. Mendelson noted the largest single adjustment was a $22,000,000 reduction from the workforce investment account in FY26 to cover special education spending pressure identified over the weekend related to public charter schools; other adjustments included $10,000,000 to the Office of the State Superintendent of Education for childcare subsidy and funds to replace 450 express vote ballot marking devices.
