King City opts into Washington County CDBG program to unlock HUD funds for home repairs and neighborhood projects

The King City Council voted to authorize the city manager to execute an IGA to opt the city into Washington County's Community Development Block Grant program on June 17. "For the city to essentially opt into this grant program allows the city access to funds that Washington County receives from the National Department of Housing and Urban Development, and these funds can be used for a variety of different things," staff said during the presentation.
Council members asked about income limits and project eligibility (sidewalk gaps, weatherization, roofing, accessibility, and nonprofit facility upgrades). Staff recommended inviting Washington County staff for a more detailed briefing for council and HOAs and to publicize the program to eligible residents; council approved the IGA unanimously. Staff indicated the IGA will last until 2029 and that funding awards are first‑come, first‑served.
