Torrance County animal shelter project clears purchase order; Project Fetch transfers scheduled

Animal Services staff told commissioners June 10 that a $75,000 renovation project for the county animal shelter received purchase order approval and site work is beginning this week. Luke Fields credited county staff support and said exterior improvements will precede interior work; an 811 utility location ticket has been submitted to support fence-line work.
Danette Langdon, Animal Shelter Director, said the kennel was temporarily closed to facilitate construction and that transfers through Project Fetch have been arranged to create space. Four dogs are scheduled to move to Animal Humane New Mexico in Albuquerque later this week. Staff also briefed commissioners on a separate $136,000 new‑building project that is being readied for purchase orders once current renovations conclude.
