County administrator outlines Safe Streets kickoff and ongoing road projects

County Administrator Janelle Dockendorf updated the commission on transportation and safety projects, saying the Safe Streets for All initiative will hold a kickoff meeting on Aug. 26 to look at intersections and crash data and explore grant opportunities. She reported that the 11601100 Avenue bridge pour began and that the project will observe a 28-day cure period before additional work (guardrails, approaches) continues.
Dockendorf also said the county completed chip sealing on West First Street from Van Buren to Fair Road, worked with the city to coordinate that effort, and began paint striping—"they've already completed the 90 miles of yellow striping," she said. The administrator added that the safety and wellness committee is planning staff development and that these projects will help the county pursue maintenance and safety grant opportunities.
