The Dickinson County Board adopted a proclamation designating the county as a Purple Heart County and recommending that Aug. 7 be recognized annually as Purple Heart Day in the county. The proclamation, read during the meeting, recited the Purple Heart's history and said the state of Kansas was designated a Purple Heart State on March 12, 2026.
A commissioner moved to approve the proclamation and the motion was seconded; the board voted "aye" and the motion carried. Staff said the proclamation will be submitted to the organization's national registry and that local flag protocols (such as half-staffing) could be discussed with the group's representative.
