Parks & Recreation Committee member Miss Love presented a conceptual plan for Sugar Run Park and said the committee "has reviewed this plan, and approved it, but we just wanted to make council aware of the conceptual plan for Sugar Run Park subject to change based on design." The concept includes a shelter, a repurposed silo, a playground, an overlook around the creek and an expanded natural area of native plantings.
Miss Love told council the grant application for state funding is due in September; if awarded, the funding would support improvements in future years. She noted areas bought with OPWC funds have restrictions and some front-of-property improvements would not be eligible for OPWC money, though village funds could fill gaps later.
Council members offered design suggestions including an outer loop that could be planned as an even mile for running events, a primitive clearing for scout activities, and keeping the main loop out of the floodplain to preserve sensitive areas. No formal vote was taken; staff said they will proceed to develop the design and prepare the grant application.
