Public Works reports MS4 permit compliance; DEP inspection found no violations

Public Works staff presented the municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) compliance update on Aug. 5, telling council the DEP’s June 11 inspection found no violations and that staff are meeting permit obligations across the six minimum control measures.
Miss Poway summarized the MS4 program’s six components: public education/outreach; public involvement/participation; illicit‑discharge detection and elimination; construction‑site runoff control; post‑construction runoff control; and pollution prevention/municipal good housekeeping. She said staff completed required outfall screenings in the cycle period, are coordinating erosion‑control reviews for construction projects, inspect post‑construction best‑management practices and perform municipal housekeeping activities including street sweeping and facility inspections. The annual report to DEP is due Sept. 30 and staff placed the update on the public record; no council action was requested beyond acceptance of the update for the minutes and inclusion in the annual report.
Council thanked staff for the update and had no further questions. Staff said they will include the meeting minutes and the update in the required annual submission to DEP.
