MEMA reports new EOC, CEMP submitted to mayor and 29,331 emergency-alert subscribers

Kono Davis, deputy administrator of the Maui Emergency Management Agency, gave the commission an update from the agency’s new emergency operations center and outlined recent work to strengthen preparedness and mitigation across the county. Highlights included the agency’s annual Preparedness Expo (about 300 attendees), coordination with Human Services and the American Red Cross on sheltering capacity, continuing efforts to staff a permanent chief secretary, and a submitted Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan now awaiting the mayor’s signature.
Davis told commissioners that MEMA Alerts subscriptions now stand at 29,331 and that the county experienced three Level‑3 activations in May for weather monitoring, a potential HECO PSPS event and a brush fire. He also described ongoing mitigation projects on county parcels at Holomua Road and Cut Mountain and progress on programs to provide offices and equipment for isolated‑community staff on Molokai, Lanai and Hana. “Currently, we're at 29,331 subscribers,” Davis said during the report.
