Council discussion on May 27 centered on a proposed Long Prairie Rental Registration, Licensing and Inspection Ordinance. Planning & Zoning Director Steve Jones told the council the program is a significant undertaking that will require time to craft correctly and that the city will likely need to hire a contracted inspector to support enforcement and inspections. Jones also said a public hearing will be required this summer.
Council Member Clint Krueger moved to table the proposal until June 10 so staff can continue work; Mayor James Kreemer seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Staff plans to return with ordinance language, inspection protocols and a hearing schedule.
