Audrey Morris, director of the Department of Social Services, presented a quarterly snapshot of social-services activity and program spending to the board on Dec. 18.
Morris said quarterly expenditures for DSS programs totaled $382,104.85 and that the locality's share of that spending was about 13%, or approximately $49,596.46. She walked supervisors through benefits distributed through SNAP, TANF and Medicaid, noting more than 3,000 residents received Medicaid benefits in the quarter and that the department administers several energy and auxiliary grant programs funded outside the locality.
Morris proposed providing these figures quarterly so the board and public can see how grant-funded programs and benefits flow through the county, and she said the department will provide brief reports and highlight additional programs as data availability improves.
What's next: Supervisors asked for quarterly DSS highlights to continue; staff agreed to add more program detail to future packets as state reporting permits.
