Staff aims for public review of ‘objective design standards’ draft by month’s end

Planning staff and the objective design standards subcommittee briefed the commission on work to date and next steps. Subcommittee commissioners (including Commissioners Yee and Ortiz on the record) and staff described the goals as simplifying standards, clarifying the code, and providing limited flexibility in specific areas such as material use. Staff said the code and design guidelines will be updated to align with the objective standards and tentatively scheduled for a planning commission study session in November, with a recommendation to city council possible in January. “We’re hoping to have a public review draft posted by the end of this month, for at least a 30 day public comment period,” staff said.
