Swing replacement at Piedmont Park delayed by larger safety footprint; Top Lots demolition pending

"Unfortunately, where the old swing was located, the new safety zone is bigger," Nancy said, describing how the increased safety footprint will require modifications and further homework from staff. Daniel, a public-works staff member, added that Piedmont Park is an older, mostly wooden playground with rot issues and sand surfacing that is not ADA compliant, and that staff hope to extend useful life while planning comprehensive future improvements.
Why it matters: the larger safety footprint changes the project's scope, possibly increases cost and requires careful treatment to protect oak roots and ADA access. Staff said council funding and direction exist for the swing component but broader improvements are on a five-year replacement plan and will depend on budget and further design work.
