Commission hears early results of Nova Magnolia Triangle plantings

Park staff updated the commission on plantings at the Nova Magnolia Triangle, a project partly funded by PBS donations tied to the Safe Route to School work. Nancy, a park staff member, said crews planted two Quercus tomentellas and a mix of groundcovers chosen for bloom and visibility, and installed drip irrigation.
"We have planted 2 Quercus tomentellas there," Nancy said, describing the selection of yellow yarrow, Pacific Mist manzanita and purple coyote mint. Staff said the plant palette was kept low for sight lines and that Tara Landscape installed a drip irrigation frame; staff also noted hummingbirds and other pollinators visiting the site.
Why it matters: the plantings are part of neighborhood-scale greening and safety efforts connected to prior Safe Route to School donations and aim to improve habitat and aesthetics without reducing visibility or damaging oak roots.
