The Gilpin Township Board of Supervisors authorized the chair to sign a Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) grant agreement to cover 25% of the cost to replace a flood wall in Georgetown that failed during heavy rain. Chair said DEP approved the 25% share and that the township will pay upfront and be reimbursed.
"It equates to $12,500 towards replacing that wall," the chair said when requesting authorization to sign the DEP agreement. Board members thanked the road supervisor (Ted) for securing the DEP commitment and noted they are still awaiting a decision from NCRS, which could cover the remaining 75%.
The board voted to authorize the signing of the DEP grant agreement and asked staff to continue following up with NCRS and USDA for additional funding. If the remaining funds are not secured, the board discussed the possibility of covering costs from township reserves but emphasized preference for grant coverage to avoid a local tax or budget impact.
