Town staff tout prescription-savings program that has saved local plan about $127,000 in six months

Town staff updated the Select Board on health-insurance work and a prescription-savings program that staff say could materially reduce the town's claims costs.
Town Administrator Joe Laden said staff met with Abacus (a wellness/vendor partner) and CanaRx (a prescription-savings program). He described Abacus's work on diabetes-care incentives and said the town has executed carrier authorizations to allow a broader insurance analysis. On CanaRx, Laden said participation is voluntary but could reduce prescription costs significantly; "existing people that have saved the town $127,000 through the first 6 months," he said. Laden and staff projected that if enrollment increases the town could see additional annual savings in the range of about $175,000 to as much as $500,000. The board discussed outreach, including adding the program link to onboarding materials and the town website so employees would be aware of the option.
