School board certifies proposed levy at maximum, schedules Truth in Taxation hearing for Dec. 8

The Litchfield Public Schools Board on Sept. 22 voted to certify its proposed levy at the maximum and set a Truth in Taxation hearing for 6:00 p.m. on Dec. 8, 2025, in the Wagner Education Building board room. Marcia Provencher moved the motion and Tim Oster seconded; the motion carried 6-0.
Business Manager Johnson had presented a preliminary levy analysis earlier in the meeting, telling the board that the levy for taxes payable in 2026 (FY2027) is expected to decrease by $67,286.04, or about 1.01 percent, from the payable 2025 levy to roughly $6.6 million. The board’s certification establishes the maximum levy the district may levy for the coming year but allows the district to hold the Truth in Taxation hearing before finalizing any levy figure.
The Truth in Taxation meeting will be the formal opportunity for taxpayers to hear details and ask questions before the district adopts a final levy. Provencher sponsored the motion; Oster seconded and all six board members voted in favor.
