Commissioner Navarro proposed adopting County-of-Orange language requiring that parking and maneuvering areas be designed so that vehicles can leave the site traveling in a forward direction, citing problems encountered on previous reviews where trash trucks and delivery vehicles would otherwise be required to back long distances into public streets. "Parking and maneuvering areas including garages and carports shall be designed so that any vehicle can leave the parking area and enter into the nearest street traveling in a forward direction," Commissioner Navarro read from county guidance and suggested adding a similar requirement. Commissioners asked staff to consult with Republic Services (trash provider), engineering and fire and to return with diagrams and recommended verbiage.
Staff agreed to include the issue in the next package and to provide sample schematics demonstrating engineered turnaround solutions, maneuvering-area dimensions and gate-setback recommendations.
