MPS expands school-based mental-health pilots; Wayfinder and brief interventions roll out at dozens of schools

Minneapolis Public Schools staff reported initial implementation of a Comprehensive School-Based Mental Health System highlighting Wayfinder implementation and a brief-intervention pilot. Slides listed 17 counselors (one with over 100+ uses), 30 social workers, and 64 staff trained on Dec. 13 in social-emotional and behavioral interventions. The brief-intervention pilot offers up to 90 days of 1:1 supports and referral to long-term care as needed and is piloting in 38 schools.
Staff said the district has contracted mental-health providers using a common data collection system and completed a SHAPE assessment; next steps include using climate and SHAPE assessment results to develop short- and long-term priorities and building a district SEB intervention library to inform supports and staffing.
