The Minneapolis Public Schools Committee of the Whole received a mid-year Strategic Plan progress report on Jan. 28, 2025, with Superintendent Dr. Sayles-Adams presenting district-wide updates on four priority goals: academic achievement, student well-being, effective staff, and school climate.
Staff highlighted concrete implementation metrics and near-term actions. For example, the district reported 1,074 licenses assigned for LETRS/UFLI training with 110 staff missing a session and 200 not registered; staff said the Minnesota Department of Education delayed additional licenses, complicating rollout and prompting make-up sessions and internal supports. District leaders also flagged budget-driven reductions in well-rounded offerings (Arts, Music, World Language, STEM) from SY 2023-24 to SY 2024-25 and noted that sustaining those offerings is highly dependent on budget decisions and potential FY26 allocations.
The presentation covered multiple program updates: Open Up Math and i-Ready diagnostics in middle grades, the ARCS (Anti-Racist Culturally Sustaining) rubric pilot for secondary ELA and science adoptions, the SOEI task force's work on observation rubrics, a districtwide student climate survey with 14,797 completed responses (70% completion), and Grow Your Own teacher-pipeline initiatives that have produced recruitment events and 173 staff inquiries as of Jan. 17. Staff repeatedly listed next steps that include offering additional professional development, improving cross-site data reporting, and including program costs in the FY26 budget proposal.
