Residents urge council to prioritize neighborhood streets and sidewalks over 'vanity' projects

Several residents used the public-comment period at the Feb. 4 Placentia City Council meeting to press the council to prioritize streets and sidewalks in the city budget. "Our goal is to be as squeaky as needed so that our streets can get done sooner than later," John Beltran said, urging officials to defer a Kramer Park fountain rehab until nearby streets and cul-de-sacs are addressed. Scott King and Mark Hamill also described local safety and maintenance concerns: King asked that staff restake fallen trees and fix Ponderosa tract roads that he said could damage vehicles, and Hamill highlighted uneven sidewalks near El Dorado School that he said create hazards for students and parents with strollers.
Councilmembers acknowledged the concerns and said the city is seeking funding and prioritizing road and infrastructure needs as part of an accelerated budget timeline. Mayor Pro Tem Ivanka and others encouraged residents to continue providing input as staff works to balance the budget and project priorities.
