Residents press council to prioritize street repairs, question Old Town Streetscape budget

Several residents used the public comment period to press the council to reassign CIP funds and put streets at the top of the budget. John Beltran described organizing a neighborhood meeting with about 30 percent turnout and said residents plan to "be a squeaky hinge" at council meetings until they see results on local streets.
Beltran also questioned the Old Town Streetscape project budget that he said appeared to be roughly $10 million with $9 million not coming from general funds; he urged council to reassess whether that investment would improve traffic flow or be a "vanity project." "I don't know that 10,000,000 is gonna make a difference in whatever the plan is there," Beltran said.
Nathan Dedick and others echoed concerns about deeply deteriorated street foundations and urged the city to prioritize work that addresses foundational failures rather than cosmetic projects. Councilmembers thanked presenters and pointed to the planned midyear CIP session as the appropriate venue for detailed prioritization.
