Public Works Director Chris Taneo gave the council a status update on the fiscal‑year street rehabilitation program, saying residential slurry seal work began Jan. 13 and localized full‑depth repairs are underway in southwest neighborhoods. Taneo said full‑depth reconstruction was also in progress in north‑central parts of the city, listing Hudson, Wilmette, Roanoke, Little Bighorn and Susquehanna among the streets receiving work.
Taneo reviewed the Artiller Street rehabilitation scope: Melrose from Crowther to Orange Slope and Chapman from Kramer to Placentia. He said concrete improvements and utility adjustments would begin with the first phase of work scheduled to start Jan. 21, followed by mill and overlay paving; completion for the Artiller segments was expected by mid‑April 2025 and the residential areas were expected to be completed by the end of February.
Council members and the interim city administrator discussed coordinating active transportation improvements with the scheduled street construction on Melrose. Taneo noted the bicycle improvements shown in a separate planning presentation were south of the current construction limits and would not be incorporated into the immediate Melrose work.
