School board approves joint powers agreement with Maple Grove for Aspen Ridge fields

The Osseo Public School District board on July 14 approved a joint powers agreement with the City of Maple Grove to enable cooperative use and city investment in athletic fields and other outdoor spaces at Aspen Ridge Elementary School.
"So we've been working on, a joint powers agreement with the city for the last 6 to 9 months," Executive Director of Finance and Operations John Morstead said, describing an arrangement under which the city would invest in fields and manage and maintain shared spaces while the district retains use. The board moved to approve the agreement and voted 6 to 0 in favor.
Board members were told the city approached the district about investing in the south end of the property; with board approval the agreement will next go to Maple Grove's park and recreation board and city council for their review and approval. The board's action at this meeting was the formal district-level approval required to advance the agreement.
The board took no amendments to the motion during discussion and recorded a unanimous vote. The district did not specify dollar figures for the city's planned investment during the presentation.
