Council approves advance ordering for storm-sewer manholes and force-main replacement on 3rd Avenue

Assistant city engineer Joe Hatch briefed the council on the 3rd Avenue improvements and recommended the city authorize advance procurement of storm-sewer components and the force-main replacement so work crews can begin as they finish existing work on 3rd Avenue.
Hatch told the council that "There are 5 precast concrete storm sewer structures that will be installed as part of the improvements, and the material cost of these structures is about 25 k." He also stated there is "580 feet of force main to be installed on 17th Street" and that the "cost for this improvement is about 94,000." Council Member Schmidt moved to authorize the fabrication of the storm sewer manholes and the force-main replacement in advance of a formal change order; Council Member Sumner seconded and the motion passed by voice vote.
Councilors said the advance authorization is intended to avoid construction delays because some materials have a 3'4 week lead time. City staff said MSA will present a formal change order for ratification at the August 20 council meeting.
