Consultant Ian of McKinsey updated the Astoria Parks Board on the draft parks master plan and next steps, saying, "So today, I'm just gonna share an update with you on where we're at in the planning process and what is next." He told the board the team expects to wrap up in about two months and that staff will bring the final document to the Planning Commission and City Council for adoption.
Ian reviewed public engagement to date and logistics for the next outreach: a final open house on April 18 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the library and a closing online survey. He said attendance at the March 7 open house was about 20 in person while the online survey gathered more than 600 responses; a summary report of survey results is slated to be posted to the city website next week. "We'll be putting out a a summary report as we have for the previous 2, and those will be available, I believe next week," he said.
The draft recommendations are grouped into operations and maintenance, capital projects, and programming, with implementation steps assigning responsible parties, time frames and rough order-of-magnitude costs. Ian told the board staff will use prior feasibility work — including a 2023–24 study by Scott Edwards Architects for aquatic-center concept options — as a starting point for capital recommendations.
