Engineering outlines few new initiatives for 2026; cross-connection plan and GIS transition highlighted

Hussain Johnson, director of engineering, told the board the department has seven full-time equivalents and no new positions proposed for 2026. He said the engineering priorities are largely carryovers: Tahoe Cedars and Madden Creek reconstruction, West Shore bike-trail rehabilitation, Tahoe City Golf Course clubhouse planning and completing an administrative facilities master plan for board review in 2026.
On technical services, staff said the district must adopt and implement a cross-connection control plan required by the Department of Drinking Water (the statewide cross-connection control policy replaces prior Title 17 requirements). Staff warned implementation will require surveying every residential and commercial property for potential cross connections and conducting significant outreach. Staff also plans to transition GIS from ArcMap to ArcPro to modernize data management and better integrate with asset management systems.
