Butler Creek Elementary Principal Gayle Sideris and Assistant Principal Dr. Karen Kennedy presented the school's efforts to elevate student voice and prepare students for post-secondary pathways. Counselor Daniele Peterson described career exploration lessons delivered in collaboration with fifth-grade teams, projects such as mock college applications and career panels, and a culminating field experience.
Peterson said the program included a "Career Road" sequence "culminating in participation in BizTown, where students apply for jobs, run for Mayor, vote, and operate a simulated town during a field experience." Board members asked about leadership opportunities and commented on increased student confidence and engagement; the Board recognized the program's alignment with district goals.
