Police and code enforcement warn residents about AI phone scams; solicitors must carry permits

At the start of the meeting the commission heard two public‑safety announcements.
Officer Mendoza warned residents about AI‑enabled phone scams that impersonate acquaintances and urged people to verify callers, use safe phrases and never send money via wire or gift cards. “These scams use AI to impersonate people you know to trick you into giving away money or personal information,” he said, and reminded the public that they can contact the Placentia Police Department for guidance.
Code Enforcement Supervisor Dan Piveroff reminded attendees that solicitors, peddlers and canvassers must obtain a city permit and wear an identification card visibly while conducting door‑to‑door activity; he added that no solicitor is permitted to ring a bell or knock on a residence displaying a notice to that effect.
