Board staff flagged rising utility costs as a growing budget pressure. Hayden told members that a comparison of January 2024 and January 2025 electricity bills showed a roughly $12,000 increase for the district's buildings, prompting the board to consider energy-efficiency projects and vendor support.
"Last month, I did look at our January 2024 electricity bill versus our January 2025 electricity bill, it's $12,000 different," Hayden said in explaining the utility cost driver. The board discussed an energy-performance contract vendor scheduled to present the following day to evaluate potential multi-year efficiency projects and payback timelines; staff also noted recent LED rebate incentives from NYSEG that should provide short-term savings.
Members asked about the expected payback and contract terms; the board agreed to evaluate proposals and rebates to determine whether projects deliver sufficient savings to justify capital outlays. Staff will report vendor findings and any recommended projects at subsequent work sessions.
