The State Board of Elections voted unanimously Aug. 6 to adopt final regulations governing the state's automatic voter registration (ABR) program, a staff member said. The regulations codify guardrails for how state agencies transmit registration data to the board and mirror many elements of the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA).
"The legislature provided for automatic voter registration," counsel Brian said in presenting the rules, adding that the draft was first published in December 2021 and has since received stakeholder comments. The board recorded a unanimous vote to adopt the regulations, and staff said counties and state agencies will proceed with implementation under the adopted rules.
