2025 trail survey finds high satisfaction, sharp rise in e-bike use

Aaron Husband, public affairs specialist at TCPUD, presented the district's 2025 trail intercept survey and said the results "confirm that our trails are a beloved and widely used both recreation and transportation resource for residents and visitors alike." The survey combined four in-person survey days (two in July, two in September) with an online form and produced 341 in-person and 194 online responses, which staff used to update usage and sentiment metrics that were last measured in 2019.
Husband highlighted that 98% of respondents rated their trail experience as good or excellent and 96% said the trails strongly influenced their enjoyment of North Lake Tahoe. He also reported shifts in modes of use: 52% of users biked, 35% walked and 13% jogged, and 55% of bike users said they used an e-bike at least sometimes—up from 11% in 2019. Committee members asked staff about winter usage, additional winter intercepts, and regional signage consistency; staff said they would work with basin partners, including TRPA, to standardize e-bike messaging and signage.
