Advisory committee narrows list of witnesses for book-challenge hearing, agrees time limits

At the Feb. 5 meeting the committee identified who it wants to hear at the scheduled Feb. 10 hearing: the two challengers, the teacher who assigned the book, former student Dakota Young and other community members suggested by committee members. Jashon Mills asked the committee to hear former student Dakota Young; several members suggested retired teachers and a library representative.
Committee members agreed that each speaker at the Feb. 10 hearing will be limited to three minutes to ensure time for multiple witnesses. Blakesley said she will contact suggested speakers — including Megan Hughs from the public library and several retired teachers — to confirm availability and will distribute staff materials in advance.
