Principals review end‑of‑year achievement, SEL and CTE updates at Pendleton School District 16 work session

On June 3, 2025, principals from three Pendleton School District 16 campuses presented end‑of‑year reports at a work session attended by the board.
Sherwood Elementary Principal TJ Presley reviewed fall‑to‑spring reading and math comparisons and credited gains to Staff Focus, MTSS screeners, an Intervention Specialist and phonics growth. Assistant Principal Faith Lindley described work on social‑emotional learning and behavior screening, citing use of the DESSA behavior screener, MTSS processes, Brain Smart Start professional development for paraprofessionals and a “Calm Down Corral” as part of behavior supports.
Sunridge Middle School Principal Piper Kelm summarized two focus areas—improving attendance and raising OSAS reading and math scores—outlining action steps, stakeholder communication and disciplinary data trends from the past two years. Principal Kelm provided progress highlights and next steps for instruction and assessment.
Pendleton High School Principal Patrick Dutcher and Assistant Principal Curt Thompson highlighted the Class of 2025 graduation, student achievements across the PHS and Hawthorne campuses, and discussed attendance and enrollment trends, postsecondary plans and pathways in athletics and the military. They also described planned expansions in CTE and science programming and efforts to strengthen schools‑to‑careers connections.
Board members were given opportunity to ask questions of the principals. Remaining end‑of‑year reports for Washington and McKay elementary schools were scheduled for the June 9, 2025 regular board meeting along with the PELC report.
