Principal Tyler told the board the district reviewed the new Amplify curriculum against New York State science-of-reading guidance and concluded that "our curriculum meets the requirements of the year to date curriculum review. It's in line with the science of reading requirement." He described repeated, site-based and virtual coaching from the curriculum vendor and one-on-one and group coaching supports for teachers.
Tyler reviewed assessment results: the district's i-Ready diagnostics show growth across most grades (he cited middle-of-year diagnostic growth of about 70% for the median student in reading) and used that data to plan interventions. He emphasized that i-Ready is one of multiple data points and that the district uses mClass and progress monitoring to target foundational skills for Tier 3 students.
Board members raised concerns about students with significant reading deficits and how co-teaching and integrated models meet IEP requirements. Tyler described interventions "embedded in the lesson" and pull-out Tier 3 instruction; he said interventionists and reading specialists deliver targeted instruction and that the district regrouped students every 10 days based on data. He offered to provide anonymized progress data on special-education students to board members who requested it.
