Mendota Unified elects Sherry Charles president; Jesus Zavala vice president, Sergio Valdez clerk

Sherry Charles was elected president of the Mendota Unified School District Board of Trustees at the board's annual organizational meeting on Dec. 17, 2025. Secretary Dr. Paul Lopez opened nominations; Member Salvador Ochoa nominated Charles and the motion carried 6-0 with Charles recused from the vote.
In the same session Salvador Ochoa nominated Jesus (J.) Zavala for vice president; the board approved his election 6-0 with Zavala recused. Member Jesus Zavala then nominated Sergio Valdez for clerk; the board approved that nomination 6-0 with Valdez recused. Each officer will serve until the next legally required organizational meeting in December 2026.
The nominations and votes followed the board's prescribed organizational process led by Board Secretary Dr. Paul Lopez. The record shows recusals were entered consistent with those nominees who were the subject of the vote. No contested ballots or alternative nominees were recorded during the proceedings.
