Garrett Wood told the board he was born in Gresham, attended district schools, and remains closely involved as a parent and community volunteer. He noted prior service on the North Gresham Elementary design committee and the district redistricting committee, and said his work on the budget committee gives him experience with constrained-resource decision-making.
"The district was here before him and will be here after him," Wood said when describing the need to steward long-term district health. He described his approach to conflict as prioritizing listening and de-escalation and advocated for resource allocation based on effectiveness, with equity as the floor and data-driven monitoring to measure progress.
Wood also told the board he would "show up as prepared" and work as part of a team, saying targeted supports and removing gate-keeping are ways to lift students without sacrificing standards. Chair Blake Petersen thanked Wood for applying and noted the board would compare candidates using a scoring matrix after the interviews.
