Assistance League outlines clothing, fee and scholarship support for Seaside students

Judith Houck, representing the Assistance League of the Columbia Pacific, told the Seaside School District board on Feb. 18 that the nonprofit has supported local schools for more than 16 years through clothing distributions, a backpack program, assistance with athletic fees and scholarships. "For over 16 years, the AL has helped Seaside Schools with clothing, fee assistance, scholarships, and more," Houck said.
Houck said the group's programs include Cinderella's Closet, an athletic-fee assistance program coordinated through school counselors, and a scholarship application window due April 1. She reported the Assistance League's annual budget is about $200,000, largely funded by the Home & Chef tour fundraiser, and urged the district to talk with AL about unmet needs in the school community. Member Kevin LaCoste thanked the group and asked how sports-fee assistance is distributed; Houck said counselors identify need and contact AL. The board took no formal action but acknowledged the organization’s ongoing partnership.
