Board hears consultant overview of district five-year strategic plan before approving it

An outside strategic-planning coach presented a five-year, community-informed strategic plan for South Umpqua and outlined next steps for implementation, including an annual scorecard and cabinet review to pick priority goals each year.
"It's the road map for the next 5 years of the district," said Gail Junior Butler (speaker 5), the consultant working with the district, describing the plan as an agile document that will be annualized with a scorecard used to monitor progress. The consultant identified four pillars: supporting successful students; empowered and valued staff; strong family and community partnerships; and modern, safe facilities.
Board members asked how the district will choose which pillar goals to prioritize in year one; the consultant said the cabinet will rank priorities by urgency and reasonableness and then cascade district priorities to building-level work. The board later approved the strategic plan as part of the consent agenda after the presentation.
