Mayor Kyle Van Buskirk read a proclamation recognizing National Teacher Appreciation Week (May 5–9) and invited Norcrest Elementary’s teacher of the year forward for recognition; the mayor also noted local autism awareness efforts and thanked community partners and educators.
The commission also presented the new "employee of the 0.25" award to Bert Kelly, a parks and public works team leader praised for event work, early starts and mentoring new staff. “Bert truly has a heart for the people,” Mayor Van Buskirk said, asking the audience to stand and applaud the honoree.
The recognition items were ceremonial and did not require commission action; the meeting continued into public comment and business afterward.
