Zillah advances recreation plans: pickleball courts, playground, possible barn-door coffee relocation and a $1,000 volunteer firefighter grant

Mayor Scott Carmack said the city has been in conversations with Barn Door Espresso about options to relocate the business onto properly permitted city land and said the Council as the policy-making body must propose ways to enable that move. He also proposed the city host a pickleball tournament to showcase the new courts.
City Administrator Michael Grayum highlighted that Fire Chief Keith Kulhavy secured a $1,000 grant from Legends Casino to purchase equipment for volunteer firefighters and said Chief Kulhavy's interim status has been removed and he will be sworn in at the next Council meeting. Grayum also outlined plans for installing playground equipment at Loges Park to complement the recently completed pickleball courts and off-leash dog area, and staff noted operational details for a residents-only July 4 fireworks launch and a July 5–6 3-on-3 tournament.
