Tarkington ISD OKs up to $60,000 for fire-panel upgrades after vendor discontinuation warning

The Tarkington ISD Board authorized up to $60,000 from fund balance Sept. 15 to purchase fire-panel upgrades for Tarkington High School, Tarkington Middle School, and Tarkington Elementary School.
Mr. Chris Conner, Director of School and Student Services, told trustees that "the current system has been discontinued by the manufacturer, parts are no longer readily available, and a failure would result in the system being red tagged by the Fire Marshal." After describing possible communications upgrades to ensure proper monitoring, the board approved the funding on a unanimous vote.
District staff will coordinate procurement and installation and report back to the board when a vendor and schedule are set. The board recorded the motion as moved by Kevin Johnson and seconded by Susan Rollins.
